In December 2023 we lost our beloved Musical Director/Conductor, David LaMorte. Words cannot describe what he meant to the Staten Island Community Band, to Tottenville High School, and to the entire musical community of Staten Island and beyond. His legacy lives on in all of us, and in every student he taught. He will be deeply missed.
In 2021, the Band was deeply saddened to have lost one of its most enthusiastic members, Judge David Frey. Judge Frey was the long-time SICB Librarian, the caretaker of the Band's performance pieces. In addition, Judge Frey was a talented clarinetist who loved coming to our weekly rehearsals and performing, at times alongside his two daughters. In his honor, the Judge David Frey SICB Scholarship was created and, at our Spring 2022 Concert, the inaugural scholarships were awarded to two high school seniors who were active members of the band. The scholarship will continue to be awarded each year.
